Summary:

DS House is a small, family-run serviced apartment. It is simply furnished and spacious rooms with private bathroom and an optional balcony. Rooms without private balconies have access to a communal balcony. All units are fully furnished with air-con, refrigerator, and free high-speed, wireless internet. All rooms are private ensuite with hot and cold water and there is free room cleaning service once a week. Bedding is also provided at no extra charge and is changed weekly. The apartment is very friendly and warm atmosphere in a good location. Importantly, they accept only UN staff.

There is a communal kettle and microwave. There are no other communal kitchen facilities. A pack of 6 bottles of water can be ordered for 80 baht. There is a free communal washing machine (self-service), or alternatively lots of laundry shops around Samsaen area that cost approximately 40 baht/kilo, as well as a dry cleaning service in the nearby Nouvo City Hotel.  Please note, no towels are provided.

Facilities and surrounding area:

Very close to the Samsaen area which is a nice place to stay with an abundance of street food stalls, massage places, restaurants, cafes and 7elevens for quick grocery shopping. There are a few bigger supermarkets/department stalls (J supermarket) along Samsaen Rd towards Khoa San. It’s approx. 10 mins walk from the Phanfa Klong Boat, and 20 mins from the Phra Arthit boat pier. Generally, Samsaen is a sociable area with lots of interns staying nearby.

Price:

Security Deposit – 8,000 Baht (refunded upon departure assuming no damages)

Rent – 7,500- 9,000 Baht/month (without/with a balcony)

Water – 18 Baht/Unit.

Electricity – 6 Baht/Unit.

Roughly Monthly Expenditure – Approx. 9,000-10,000 Baht/month

For the electricity and water bills, some pay less than Baht 500/month, while the other pay more than Baht 1,500/month. This depends on your consumption.

Advantages:

  • The landlord (named Boy) is absolutely lovely and always available
  • Having people visiting is absolutely no problem – Boy will provide extra keys + pillow and towel for guests
  • Rooms cleaned once a week and bedding changed weekly
  • Friendly and helpful reception staff
  • Closest accommodation to the UN
  • Excellent location close to UN and other amenities and interns

Disadvantages:

  • DS House is located in a narrow alleyway, and walking home at night as a female can sometimes be uncomfortable
  • We are not provided with basics such as toilet paper and cutlery
  • There is no kitchen
  • No swimming pool
