Summary:

Light and simply furnished rooms with balcony and private bathroom. Furniture includes a queen-sized bed with pillows, sheets and pillow covers, a wooden reclining chair, desk, chairs, beauty table with mirror (or shelving), bathroom with toilet, hot water (no shower curtain), sink and small mirror.

There are 4 communal washing machines on the ground floor (20-30 baht per wash) or alternatively lots of laundry shops around Juan Manee that cost approximately 40 baht/kilo, as well as a dry cleaning service in the nearby Nouvo City Hotel.

UPDATE 2017: In addition to the main seven-floor building, there are two other two-storey apartments behind the at the front. Rent per month is 7,000Baht. These are much quieter and cooler compared to the big building. Other advantages include there being another sink for a small kitchen. There is a kettle available. But you can buy a toaster or a multi-purpose cooker to make life easier. Disadvantages are that there is no balcony to hang clothes (but you have a wooden clothes hanger which you can place outside when the sun is up).

Facilities and surrounding area:

Samsaen area is a nice place to stay with an abundance of street food stalls, massage places, restaurants, cafes and 7elevens for quick grocery shopping. There are a few bigger supermarkets/department stalls (e.g. J supermarket) along Samsaen Rd towards Khoa San. It’s approx. 20 mins walk from the Phanfa Klong Boat, and 10 mins from the Phra Arthit boat pier. Generally, Samsaen is a sociable area with lots of interns staying nearby.

Price:

Rent – 6,000 -> 7,000 Baht/month (lower -> higher floors)

Fridge – 350 Baht/month

T.V – 350 Baht/month

Wifi – 350 Baht/month

Room Cleaning – 300 Baht/clean

Deposit – 1 month’s deposit plus 200 Baht keycard deposit (retuned upon check out)

Water – 18 Baht/unit. Approximately 30-60 Baht/month based on 2 showers per day

Electricity – 8 Baht/unit. Can range from 150-600 Baht/month depending on usage/time of year

Roughly Monthly Expenditure – Approx. 8,000 Baht/month

Advantages:

  • Friendly and helpful reception staff (work hours and weekend only)
  • 24/hr Security and CCTV
  • Air con and wifi available in the rooms
  • Excellent location close to UN and other amenities and interns
  • Good value for money
  • Guests allowed at your own discretion and may stay for a relatively long period of time with no questions asked

Disadvantages:

  • Attendants were not fluent in English which can make conversing difficult
  • No kitchen
  • No towel or extra sheet/blanket provided
  • Poor soundproofing
  • Beds, especially on the lower floors, are really hard
  • No swimming pool
  • Big dark wooden, heavy furniture, one intern recently (May 2017) noted some termite ants at the back of the wooden cabinet towards the end of their stay
  • Not allowed to ‘cook’ but you can purchase a kettle/toaster etc to make life easier
  • Payments are all in cash, in person at the end of each month. This may be inconvenient sometimes, as you have to make it back to the apartment before 530PM to endorse your payment.

Intern Tips:

We suggest buying a padlock for your bedroom door as an extra security measure. Despite the security guard outside and CCTV cameras, the locks are pretty flimsy. Plus this will ensure you belongings are safe during long weekend adventures away.

Rooms higher up have ‘comfier’ beds and the corridors tend to be a bit quieter.

Corner rooms of each floor have an additional price of 500 Baht p/m.

Rental prices vary depending the period of stay – the longer the cheaper.

Rooms at the back of the building, facing AWAY from Chillax, are quieter.

One tip for those who opt to live near UN vicinity: you may want to subscribe to online grocery delivery portals (like Tops or Big C). They deliver groceries to your doorstep at your preferred time, cash on delivery basis. Minimum order of 888baht if you want free delivery or additional fee of 60baht for orders less than 888baht. This is still reasonable considering the long walk to the nearest grocery or carrying heavy water or milk bottles all the way to the apartment.

Distance to UN:

Approximately 20 minutes walk, 10 mins by motorbike taxi or taxi.
